Puller (cleaning device)

A cleaner removes paint residue from a railroad car with a puller

A puller is used for the most efficient and quick removal of liquids or granules from preferably smooth surfaces. It is used in particular when cleaning window panes.

A puller

It consists of a handle (usually made of metal , wood or plastic ) and a 20–40 cm long strip lying across the handle, on the underside of which a rubber lip runs.

Film stripping tongs for drying 35mm or roll films after wet development have about three pairs of lips. Squeegees with a broomstick and a foam rubber lip, which adapts to uneven floors, are used to pull away and push dirty water to a drain. Vehicle windshield wipers provide a clear view in rain and splash water.

The liquid is moved in front of the puller by a damming effect. A fine angular lip on smooth glass seals so well that only a very thin film remains, which may evaporate quickly. Chattering (swinging) can be largely avoided by choosing a suitable lip, suitable angle of attack and contact pressure.

Yellow, fat-tanned strippable (deer) leather are used for the gentle drying of painted car bodies, but more through the gradual capillary absorption of water into the leather.
