history

Nicholas Triarchos founded Accurst in 1999 as a project with a dark ambient and horror music concept. The first release was the album Fragments of a Nightmare in 2003 via Colflesh Records . Three years later, the second album, A Phantom's Noctuary, was released via Sérpéné Héli, a small label initiated by Nicholas Triarchos. After A Phantom's Noctuary there were no further releases for the time being. Meanwhile, pieces from the album were used as part of the film music in the horror films Sinister and Sinister 2 in 2012 and 2015 . With Messenger of Shadows , a third album followed in September 2016 as a freely available download. This album was released on CD in 2018 by Aesthetic Death Records . This publication brought the project increased attention and internationally positive reviews.

style

In interviews, Accurst does not answer questions about a musical idea, a concept or general beliefs about it. In reviews, the music is described as a form of dark ambient oriented towards horror films and horror literature . The style is attested to be close to horror film music. The music is a "horror-like, musical phenomenon that is kept alive with many ambient sound paintings and a subtle drone system, but still opens abysses [...]". The band plays Dark Ambient, which is ritual and resembles horror soundtracks with harsh accents borrowed from power electronics , noise and black metal . The production sounds somber, while the themes of the songs are inspired by HP Lovecraft , occultism and mythology .
