Tina Faal (born around 1954 ) is a Gambian politician .

family

Faal married the lawyer and future minister Edward Gomez . She later married the Malian businessman Foutanga Babani Sissoko and owner of the airline Air Dabia , who returned to Mali after being convicted of fraud running into the millions . Faal divorced him.

Faal's daughter Georgina Gomez (born 1985) was sentenced to five years in prison in December 2014 because she was involved in tobacco smuggling as an employee of the embassy in London . Nathalie Gomez-Ceesay, who has worked in the presidential office for many years, is also a daughter of Faal.

Life

In February 2007 she was nominated by President Yahya Jammeh to the Gambian parliament and sat there until the new elections in 2012 . She was a member of the Alliance for Patriotic Reorientation and Construction (APRC).

In mid-2016, she left the APRC and joined the Gambia Democratic Congress (GDC) party , which was founded in the spring of that year. She justified the change with a lack of support from loyal party members, such as her daughter Georgina when convicted of cigarette smuggling in Great Britain.

In July 2016, she was arrested on charges of theft of aircraft parts and later released on bail on bail of 500,000 Dalasi (equivalent to around 100,000 euros). Faal interpreted this as an attempt to deter and intimidate after leaving the party and rejected the allegations. In early August 2016, she was arrested again for about two weeks. On February 20, 2017, the allegations were dropped.

During the political uncertainty caused by Yahya Jammeh's delayed transfer of power after the 2016 presidential elections in Gambia , she and her family fled to Dakar in mid-January 2017 .

Faal has been the holder of the Order of the Republic of The Gambia at the member level since 2010 .
