Achenbach syndrome

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Achenbach syndrome , also Fingerapoplexie , paroxysmal hand hematoma or paroxysmal finger hematoma called, is a result of a local rupture of a blood vessel evoked hematoma in his hand or a finger.

Symptoms and Etiology

Achenbach syndrome is a spontaneous (paroxysmal) hematoma of the fingers or the palm of the hand. These arise from a rupture of a blood vessel, usually a venole . A typical trigger for a rupture is carrying a shopping bag. Middle-aged women are very often affected. Achenbach syndrome can be very painful. The stabbing pain occurs suddenly, with the rupture of the blood vessel. The pain subsides after a few days and the hematomas regress in one to two weeks through absorption. However, the syndrome can recur.

Achenbach syndrome is harmless. The exact cause is unknown. Increased local instability of the vascular wall, hyperergic vascular wall damage and neurovegetative or hormonal disorders are discussed .

In the English-language specialist literature, Achenbach's Syndrome is often referred to as digital paroxysmal aneurysm .

Initial description

Achenbach syndrome is named after the Cologne internist Walter Achenbach (1921–2015), who first described it in 1958.
