Actionbound is a serious game released in 2012 , in which users can create their own digital treasure hunts, mobile adventures and interactive guides and make them available to an audience either publicly or exclusively. The Actionbound app is available for mobile devices with Android and iOS operating systems.

Emergence

Actionbound was developed in 2012 by Simon Zwick and Jonathan Rauprich and is based on Simon Zwick's media pedagogical thesis. The basic idea was to merge the current technologies, which are especially popular with young people, in one application, based on classic pedagogical methods. The resulting edugame combines elements such as participation, movement, peer-to-peer learning, mobile internet and augmented reality with current educational learning principles such as m-learning , assessment for learning or seamless learning.

technology

Actionbound consists of two parts: the browser-based editor (bound creator), with which every user can create their own so-called “bounds”, as the digital adventures are called, and the app with which the bounds are played on the smartphone or tablet can.

Content

Actionbound includes gamification - elements that promote learning and promote motivation and enthusiasm. Various contents are available to the creator of a Bound such as B. quizzes, maps, GPS, photo and video files, but also evaluations and feedback from the players. In addition, the ranking, the points system and the competition increase the participants' commitment.

Areas of application

Actionbound is used today by users and institutions around the world and is translated into 17 languages. The app is used particularly in adult and youth education, in museum education and in the library system, but also in the sports and leisure segment and increasingly in the corporate sector, for example for onboarding events, advanced training and in-house training.

Private use

In the private sector, Actionbound can be used for birthdays, stag parties, walks or interactive rallies, for example.

Educational area

In the education sector, Actionbound is ideal for campus tours, museum tours or library rallies. It is already widely used in school lessons as a game-based learning method, for example, boundaries are created by teachers to develop lesson content, thus breaking up traditional frontal teaching. Students can also actively create boundaries themselves. In this way, action-oriented lessons are designed that take up individual interests and combine mental and manual work. In addition, the training of media-related, media-critical and social skills is promoted. Actionbound can also be used as a medium for voluntary additional tasks.

The method is suitable for creativity-oriented, historical-political and natural science subjects. The extracurricular learning support that accompanies lessons can also be taken up with Actionbound. In this way, the technical competence of the young people can be used to deepen the content of teaching knowledge. Actionbound is also already being used in the school laboratory .

Corporate division

On a business level, team building events, training courses, presentations or factory tours are classic areas of application for the app.

Sport and freetime

In this sector, Actionbound can be used as a tourism tool, for guided mountain and off-road tours, classic scavenger hunts or as a digital fitness trainer.

Business model

Private use of the app is free.

Individual prices are set for business use. The costs depend on the requirements of the user. Educational institutions receive discounted conditions.

reception

The press and well-known customers rate the app very positively. In particular, the easy digital usability, the diverse application possibilities and the innovative game design are praised:
