The Acuña Island (English: Acuña Island , Spanish: Isla Acuña ) is a small island in the archipelago of the Southern Orkney Islands , which is 300 m away from Point Rae off the south coast of Laurie Island .
It was mapped in 1903 by participants in the Scottish National Antarctic Expedition (1902-1904) under the direction of polar explorer William Speirs Bruce . Bruce named it after the Argentine meteorologist Hugo Alberto Acuña (1885-1953), who was stationed in 1904 on the South Orkney Islands.
