Ad-Aware [ ˌæd ə'weə (ɹ) ] is the brand name of a proprietary antivirus program from the Canadian company Lavasoft .
The business model is freemium . In addition to the freeware version called Ad-Aware Antivirus Free, there are two paid versions with an extended range of functions. Ad-Aware runs on all Windows versions from Windows 7. Even the freeware version contains a real-time scanner . Before installing the software, an existing anti-virus program should be removed from the computer.
In addition to the currently running processes, Ad-Aware also examines the registry , favorites and cookies in the web browser and all files in a specified directory in all variants .
