AdCommerce

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

eBay AdCommerce (pun in English adverts = advertising and electronic commerce = electronic trading ) was one of eBay itself operated pay-per-click - marketing tool. It promised sellers to direct additional traffic to their offers or their eBay shop and thus to increase their sales on eBay. The service was available from November 2008 to January 2011. It was available for numerous countries in Europe, Australia, Canada, and the USA.

functionality

With targeted text ads enriched with images and links on the eBay and AdCommerce partner websites, advertisers on eBay should reach customers at a time when they are really ready to buy. The ads will be shown to buyers who search eBay for any of the search terms the advertiser has bid on. This means that the advertisements are shown to a group of customers who are already interested in this type of product. When clicking on the advertisements, the customer is forwarded directly to the advertiser's shop or his product pages.

Registration is a three-step process and requires an eBay account. If you are fully logged in, you can create three types of ads: a search ad using the ad assistant, a customized search term ad, and category ads. This selection is based on user behavior on eBay, with eBay buyers either using the search function or looking directly in the appropriate eBay categories.

The advertiser decides how much they are willing to pay for each click and sets an advertising budget. There is no minimum amount and no membership fee. The advertiser only has to pay when a visitor clicks on their ad. The placement of the ad depends on the advertiser's bid, the maximum amount they are willing to pay per click, and the quality and relevance of the ad. The actual price paid for each ad click depends on the maximum cost per click (CPC) chosen and what other advertisers are willing to pay for the search term or category. In effect, you always only pay one euro cent more than the closest competitor. CPCs can be set for individual search terms or categories, the daily budget can be set individually for each campaign created. Targeting options (by search term or by category) and the appearance of the text ads can be set as you wish.

Using detailed performance statistics, the effectiveness of your own ads can be analyzed. They should help to identify which approaches work best for the respective product portfolio. In addition to the standard key figures such as impressions or click-through rate (CTR, click rate), sellers on eBay also have key figures for return on investment (ROI - English for: return on investment ). The system measures how many clicks on the ad led to actual sales and thus to sales and how this relates to the expenses.

Ad formats

The advertisements consisted of an 80 × 80 pixel image, a bold headline, one to two line ad text and a link.

Ads assistant

The wizard automatically selects a suitable image for each search term from the seller's eBay shop. He also automatically selects the link within the shop that matches the search term. The image and the link always change dynamically with the respective search term. The wizard pulls the search terms that are stored in the ad from the product headings in the shop.

Individual search term display

The advertiser chooses an image himself and the link is also set. Regardless of which search term is entered, the image and the link do not change. The search terms that are to be stored in the advertisement can be determined by yourself, so misspellings etc. can also be taken into account.

Individual category display

In contrast to the individual search term display, the users who come via the eBay categories are selected as “targeting”. Image and link are determined by yourself and not dynamically adjusted. No direct search terms are stored in the ad, but eBay categories that match the offer. The advertiser can determine how many and which ones.
