The StifterHaus

The Stifterhaus , built in Linz in 1844 , in which Adalbert Stifter lived from 1848 until his death in 1868, is now home to the Upper Austrian Literature Museum, the Adalbert Stifter Institute (a research center for literature and linguistics) and the Upper Austrian Literature House.

The house was built in 1844 by the master builder Johann B. Metz from Linz and was owned by the cafetier Joseph Hartl from 1844 to 1857. Then it was bought by the Danube Steamship Company . In 1973 the state of Upper Austria acquired it and renovated it extensively from 1988 to 1992. In 1993 it opened as the “StifterHaus”, a center for literature and language in Upper Austria . Literary readings are held in the Stifterhaus, and the institution has been the publisher of the literary magazine Die Rampe since 2005 .

Upper Austrian Literature Museum

In the former home of the painter and writer Adalbert Stifter, the former study of the artist, born in 1805, is set up as a memorial room, which contains authentic furniture, manuscripts, paintings and drawings, portraits and the death mask of the founder. The remaining rooms of the former donor apartment on the second floor house the Upper Austria. Literature museum, which divides the regional literary history into epochs and tries to bring this closer to the public with the help of some main characters and a multimedia presentation.

Adalbert Stifter Institute

The Adalbert Stifter Institute was founded in 1950 and is a research center for literature and linguistics with a focus on Adalbert Stifter and Upper Austria. Literature.
