family

Adham Khan was the son of Maham Anga , the wet nurse of the Grand Mogul Akbar I , who had a close relationship with her and her son, Akbar's milk brother . His brother was Quli Khan . Adham Khan married Javeda Begum and Moti Bai ; the latter was a lady-in-waiting of Mariam uz-Zamanis , Akbar's chief wife. In addition, he also married Tasmin Begum , a girl from Akbar's harem . He had two sons and two daughters, who later married high-ranking people.

biography

Adham Khan was initially active in the administration of the empire, but soon developed into a competitor of the general Bairam Khan , who at that time directed a large part of the government business. Adham Khan was involved in the conquest of Mandu , the capital of the Sultanate of Malwa, together with Pir Muhammad Khan in 1561 , but after its fall acted against Akbar's orders not to enslave any prisoners. In 1561, Bairam Khan was removed from office and made a pilgrimage to Mecca . When Adham Khan stabbed Prime Minister Shamsaddin Muhammad Atga to death in the ruler's palace in Agra , Akbar knocked him off the veranda of the palace himself on May 16, 1562. Since he did not perish in the first fall, he was thrown down again on Akbar's orders, after which he was killed. His mausoleum is in Mehrauli, west of the Qutb complex and the nearby archaeological park in southern Delhi; His mother is also buried here, who died only 40 days after the death of her son.

Others

During the campaign against the Sultanate of Malwa , he is said to have fallen in love with Roopmati , the wife of the Sultan Baz Bahadur , who was poisoned at the news of the defeat.
