The Adorant vom Geißenklösterle, mammoth ivory, State Museum Württemberg (Stuttgart)

The plate shows a figure in half-relief with raised arms and spread legs. Geometric engravings (rows of notches) are made on the long and short sides and on the back. The attitude of the depicted being is often interpreted as adoration - hence the name “ adorant ”.

The ivory plate was excavated in 1979. It is 38 mm high, 14 mm wide and 4.5 mm thick. The skin-colored, darkened ivory shows traces of manganese and red chalk. The work of art is in the Landesmuseum Württemberg in Stuttgart.
