Adrián Iaies

Adrián Iaies (born November 4, 1960 in Buenos Aires ) is an Argentine pianist and composer.

Live and act

Iaies had first piano lessons from his mother and studied composition and orchestration with Manolo Juárez . As a musician, he combines tango and other Argentinian music with the musical language and aesthetics of jazz . He performed with his own trio at festivals such as Los 7 Lagos in Bariloche and the third Argentine-Brazilian Jazz Festival in New York (2000), the Aspen Festival and the Miami Film Festival (2001) and the Festival de Jazz Internacional in Punta del Este . In 2006 he gave a concert with accordionist Raúl Barbosa at the Festival de Tango de Buenos Aires .

Iaies was nominated three times for the Latin Grammy : with the albums Las Tardecitas de Minton's (2000), Tango reflections (2002) and Las cosas tienen movimiento (2003). In 2002 he was awarded the Premio Clarín for best jazz musician. For his musical work between 1995 and 2005 he received a Premio Konex . In 2004 he founded the Tango Reflections Trío (with Pablo Mainetti and Horacio Fumero ), with which he made his debut at the Madrid Jazz Festival and recorded the album Astor Changes .

Iaies has been giving courses and workshops for pianists since the mid-1980s. Among other things, Gabriel Vallejo took lessons from him. He also composed the music for the films Regresados and Tres de corazones , worked on Eliseo Subiela's Lifting de corazón and Mercedes Guevara's Tango, un giro extraño and is musical director of the Argentine jazz edition SJAZZ at EMI-ODEON. In 2012 he is Artistic Director of the 12th International Buenos Aires Jazz Festival.
