Eliseo Subiela

Eliseo Subiela (born December 27, 1944 in Buenos Aires , Argentina , † December 25, 2016 ) was an Argentine film director and screenwriter .

Life

Eliseo Subiela starred in his first short film, which lasted 20 minutes, at the age of 17. After that he worked mainly as a screenwriter and director. Over the years he has been nominated for film awards time and again, for example at the festivals in Toronto , Montreal , Berlin , Istanbul and Havana. In 2004 he was a member of the jury at the film festival in Friborg , Switzerland. His films are regarded as groundbreaking examples of cinematic magical realism . Particularly well known in Europe are The Dark Side of the Heart and Don't Die without telling me where you are going . Trigon-Film sells its films in German-speaking countries.

Eliseo Subiela was the founder of the Escuela Profesional de Cine y Artes Audiovisuales film school in Buenos Aires, where he also taught.

His daughter is the actress Guadalupe Subiela, who plays the lead role in his film Pequeños Milagros .

Subiela died of a heart attack in his hometown of Buenos Aires the day after Christmas 2016.
