The trigon-film foundation is a public-law cultural foundation (within the meaning of Article 80 ff ZGB ). The foundation, which is registered in the canton of Basel-Stadt , is based in Ennetbaden in the Canton of Aargau . Its task is to promote the knowledge of filmmaking from Africa, Asia and Latin America and can also consider films from other origins if it considers this to be culturally and developmentally important. It acts as a film distributor and also publishes DVDs under its own label.

history

The foundation was established in 1988 by the Basel film journalist Bruno Jaeggi because, according to the Federal Statistical Office, films from Africa, Asia and Latin America were practically not shown in the cinema. Since then, the foundation has been involved in promoting and promoting films from countries in the South and East. In the course of its activity, trigon-film has released more than 500 films from 84 countries and released over 320 titles in its own DVD edition, many of them in Austria and Germany, where it has branches.

The filmmakers Fernando Solanas (Argentina), Souleymane Cissé (Mali), Andrei Tarkowski (Russia), Jasmila Zbanic (Bosnia), Hirokazu Koreeda (Japan), Glauber Rocha (Brazil), Claudia Llosa (Peru), Hou Hsiao-hsien (Taiwan) ), Akira Kurosawa (Japan), Abderrahmane Sissako (Mauritania), Kenji Mizoguchi (Japan), Theo Angelopoulos (Greece), Clara Law (Hong Kong), Nuri Bilge Ceylan (Turkey) or Apichatpong Weerasethakul (Thailand) are among the authors of which works are supervised by the trigon-film foundation.

The foundation also publishes a quarterly magazine in German and French and is involved in the Swiss development fund visions sud est , which supports film productions from countries in the south and east with production grants. The president of the trigon-film foundation is the consultant for international cooperation, Martin Fässler, and the publicist Walter Ruggle has been the foundation director since 1999 . The office with ten employees is in Ennetbaden in the canton of Aargau.

The trigon-film foundation bears the Zewo seal of approval, which distinguishes non-profit organizations for the conscientious handling of donations.
