The pechorapi ( Anthus gustavi ) is a species of bird from the family of stilts and pipiters . It occurs in the east of the Palearctic . There are two subspecies. The IUCN classifies it as LC IUCN 3 1st svg(= least concern - not endangered).

Appearance

The petschorapieper reaches a body length of 14 to 15 centimeters. The wingspan is 23 to 25 centimeters. The weight varies between 20 and 26 grams.

The upper side of the body is yellow to olive brown with diffuse blackish longitudinal stripes that are more pronounced on the top of the head. The rump and upper tail-coverts are a little greener in color than the rest of the upper side of the body and are only weakly striped in individual individuals. The underside of the body is cream-colored to whitish with strongly striped chest sides. The outer control springs are partially white. The wing covers are brightly lined, which means that two light, cream-colored wing bands stand out on each wing. The bandages formed by the tip hems of the middle arm covers can be seen most clearly. The tail clearly towers above the wing tips.

There is a light, not always clearly visible, eye stripe above the eye. The iris is dark brown, the eye ring formed by two rows of feathers is cream-colored. The nostrils are exposed. The top of the beak and the tip of the lower beak are black-brown. The rest of the lower mandible becomes lighter in the direction of the root and lower jaw and is yellowish to flesh-colored. The legs are reddish flesh-colored.

There is a possibility of confusion with the red-throated pipit and the meadow pipit , both of which occur in parts of the distribution area.

The distribution area of the Pechorapi extends from the Pechora River to the Chukchi Peninsula . It also breeds on Kamchatka and the Commander Islands . As a habitat, it prefers densely vegetated areas near river banks, but is also found in the tundra .
