Advanced Life Support

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Under Advanced Life Support ( ALS ) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support ( ACLS ) is understood in the guidelines of professional societies European Resuscitation Council (ERC) and American Heart Association extended measures described (AHA) as part of a resuscitation to a cardiac arrest to stop and treat the underlying condition. The basic measures of a resuscitation, however, are called basic life support (BLS) .

Opened emergency case

While the ERC guidelines list the term ALS, the AHA uses the term ACLS. The measures in these largely coordinated guidelines only differ in details. They include peripheral venous puncture , drug therapy, airway management and defibrillation .

Certain ALS measures, such as the administration of medication or intubation, are medical activities in Germany that are carried out by non-medical personnel such as health and nursing staff , paramedics and paramedics with emergency competence or by delegation. In other countries with paramedic- based rescue services such as the USA or Switzerland, these measures are routinely practiced by specially qualified, non-medical rescue service employees.

Maritime Cardiac Life Support

Maritime Cardiac Life Support (MCLS) is an ACLS-equivalent training course that has its scientific level at the University Medical Center Greifswald.

The legitimation is granted by certification by the medical association. The measures in these largely coordinated MCLS guidelines differ from the ACLS / ALS only in details and are based on the requirements of seafaring. They include peripheral venous puncture , drug therapy, airway management and defibrillation .

Certain MCLS measures, such as the administration of medication or airway management and defibrillation, are carried out on German merchant ships under the responsibility of the captain and / or by non-medical personnel such as navigators and seafarers in emergency competence or by delegation. Internationally, seafarers are routinely qualified with these measures in basic safety courses. In order to maintain their maritime patents, masters and nautical officers must conduct medical refresher courses 5 years a year, which must be recognized by the maritime medical service of the BG.
