Advent in the courtyards

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Advent in the courts is a tourist Christmas market in the town of Quedlinburg . It was launched in 1997 as a private initiative. On the first three Advent weekends (before 2012 only on the 2nd and 3rd Advent weekend), 20 to 25 medieval / early modern courtyards framed by half-timbered houses are opened for guests. Each farm has a different thematic focus and is individually designed. Most of these courtyards are usually only open on Open Monument Day .

Visitor numbers

During the event's weekends in 2006, over 50,000 visitors came to the city each weekend. By way of comparison: at the “Welcome and Thank You Festival” held by the city of Quedlinburg in January 1990, a comparable, but at the time completely unusual, crowd was present. In December 2007, 75,000 visitors were on site over two weekends; not least because the choir director Gotthilf Fischer was present. A total of around 300,000 visitors were there in December 2008. In December 2017 there were around 100,000 guests over the six days.

Other Christmas market

In addition, a traditional Christmas market, the largest Advent calendar in Germany around the Schlossberg and a literary Advent calendar are offered on the market .
