The Aero HC-2 Heli Baby was a light two-seat helicopter that was built in series by the Czechoslovak manufacturer Moravan (Zlín) .
history
The Aero HC-2 Heli Baby was designed by engineer Jaroslav Šlechta at the Aviation Research Institute and produced by the Czechoslovak company Moravan based in Otrokovice in the 1950s and 1960s. It was the first and only helicopter mass-produced in Czechoslovakia . Development began in 1951, scooter testing began in March 1953, and the first flight took place on December 3, 1954. A second prototype was tested from August 1955. The plan was to start series production of 200 units in 1957, but problems with the drive motor delayed this by a year and ultimately production ended after around 17 to 21 units. Most of the specimens were delivered to the Czechoslovak Army, where they were used as ZR-2 for school, observation and liaison duties. Some got a more powerful engine and flew under the designation HC-102 . In 1959, the HC-2 was one of the lightest two-seat helicopters in the world.
construction
The helicopter has a three-bladed main rotor and a two-bladed tail rotor. Initially it was powered by an 83 hp (62 kW) Praga DH piston engine, which was later replaced by the more powerful Avia M-110H engine with 110 hp (81 kW), which was specially designed for use in helicopters . He had a fixed tricycle undercarriage.
