Aeropos I.
Aeropos I ( Greek Ἀέροπος Αʹ ' ) was the son of Philip I , king of Macedonia , and his successor on the throne.
Junianus Justinus reports that Aeropos was still a baby when his father died. The neighboring Illyrians took advantage of this and marched with a large army against Macedonia. When the Illyrians gained the upper hand in battle, the Macedonians thought that this could only be because their king was not with them, because the Macedonian king usually led the army into battle. Therefore the cradle with the young king was brought behind the front line. Nevertheless, they were pushed back by the enemy. Only when they realized that the king would soon fall into the hands of the Illyrians were they able to repel the attack with the utmost of their strength and put the enemy to flight.
After a reign of 26 years (approx. 588-540 BC) Aeropos died and his son Alketas I became king of Macedonia after him.
