Afghan Telecom , AfTel for short , is an Afghan telecommunications company based in Kabul . It was established in September 2005 under Afghan law and is wholly owned by the Afghan Ministry of Communications and Information Technology. A partial privatization of 80% of the company shares was tendered in March 2008. The company was still 100% state-owned in 2012.

According to its own statements, the company is the only Afghan telecom provider that offers a basic supply of all information and communication services, such as telephony (landline and mobile) or online services.

The company's telecommunications network supplies all 34 Afghan provincial capitals and 700 towns and villages with landline connections and data lines. In 2012, AfTel is said to have had an estimated 260,000 customers.
