In 2002 the entrepreneur Ehsan Bayat founded the Afghan Wireless Communications Company in Kabul as a joint venture between Telephone Systems International Inc. After setting up an extensive 2G network and introducing the MyMoney ™ mobile payment system , AWCC had 75 branches and over two million subscribers in 2009, including Azizi Bank and Kabul Bank , two of the largest banks in Afghanistan.

In 2014, the company introduced the first mobile high-speed broadband communication in Afghanistan with the 3.75G + service . As part of the 3G provision, the Internet IPv6 network was also implemented, which AWCC offered as the first and, until 2016, the only telecommunications company for Afghanistan. At the time, the company had over 4 million customers nationwide.
