Ehsan Bayat
Ehsan Bayat ( Persian احسانالله بیات- Eḥsānullāh Bayāt ; * 1963 in Kabul ) is an American entrepreneur from Afghanistan.
Life
Bayat comes from a prominent Shiite family of business people and academics. After graduating from high school, Ehsan Bayat attended medical school in Kabul to become a doctor, but then went to the USA in 1980, where he obtained a university degree as a technician. In New York he became a successful entrepreneur and American citizen.
In 1995, before the Taliban came to power, he founded Telephone Systems International Ltd. together with Gary Breshinsky († 2003) and another . (TSI) in Parsippany, New Jersey , with the intention of establishing a cellular network in Afghanistan. In September 1998, before there were government restrictions in the United States, they signed a contract for 240 million US dollars, probably with the Taliban.
In July 1999, they initially wanted to ignore President Bill Clinton's order not to do business with the Taliban, but then put the plans on hold. Breshinsky got out.
In 2001 Bayat went back to Afghanistan and founded the Afghan Wireless Communications Company (AWCC), 80% of which is TSI and 20% of the Afghan Ministry of Communications. In April 2004, they started cellular service.
He also founded the Ariana Television Network and a charitable Bayat Foundation .
