Agathonikos Fatouros

Agathonikos Fatouros ( Greek Αγαθόνικος Φατούρος , * 1937 in Egio ) is the former metropolitan of the diocese of Kitros, Katerini and Platamonos and also Exarch of Pieria. His baptismal name is Georgios.

biography

He received his education at the Theological Faculty of the University of Athens . In 1960 he was ordained a deacon and in 1964 a presbyter and served as a preacher in the metropolis of Gortyna and Megapolis until 1968 (Ιερά Μητρόπολις Γόρτυνος και Μεγαπόλεως). Then he became a lecturer at the Higher Holy Institute of Tinos (Ανώτερος Ιερατικός Φροντιστήριος Τήνου; - 1971) and first director of the Seven Years Ecclesiastical School of Tinos (Ενώτερος Ιερατικός Φροντιστήριος Τήνου; - 1971) and first director of the Seven Years Ecclesiastical School of Tinos (Ενώτατάξια Εκκοησινσυτικ19 ΕκΣχοησινστικ74 ΕκΣχοησινστική ΕκΣχοησινστικ19 Εκκοησινστική He then worked as editor for sermons and youth literature for the Archbishop of Athens (Αρχιεπισκοπή Αθηνών; 1974-85). Since 1985 he has been Metropolitan of Kitros and Katerini, where he promoted the importance of spiritual, community and charitable works. His tasks include the management of three spiritual centers, the Varnavio'schen Ecclesiastical Library (Βαρνάβειος Εκκλησιαστική Βιβλιοθήκη) - which he founded in memory of his predecessor himself -, two old people's homes, the poor feeding "daily bread" (Άεοτς) Medical and military pastoral care, train station missions and other public services.

Due to his efforts, the metropolis was renamed the Metropolie von Kitros, Katerini and Platamonos . On November 12, 2013, the Synod of the Church of Greece (Ιερά Σύνοδος της Εκκλησίας της Ελλάδος) dismissed him because he had fallen into a coma and could no longer fill his offices.
