Agfa Scala

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Agfa Scala is a black and white film from Agfa . The film is developed into a slide through an inversion process. The image is composed of silver crystals in the emulsion. This is where the film differs from the usual color slide films, where the finished image consists of clouds of color.

The film is similar to the Agfa APX 100 black and white negative film, but has no gray base. The reversal process is a bit aggressive, so the Scala emulsion has to be more robust.

The reverse process consists of the following processing steps:

Bad 1, first developer
The negative is developed for maximum contrast .
Bath 2, bleach
The silver negative is washed out of the film. A positive silver bromide remains .
Bath 3, clarify
Diffuse exposure or chemical obfuscation
Bad 4, second developer
The remaining silver bromide is reduced to silver
Bath 5, fixation
The film must be soaked between baths 1–5 and at the end.
