In medicine , agitation ( also: agitation ) means a pathological restlessness in which the patient makes violent and hasty movements ( symptoms : tremors, increased urge to move). Agitation occurs mainly in psychoses or delirium , but also in normal sleep (for example as a side effect of very vivid dreams ). It is not to be confused with ordinary nervousness .
In the dying sometimes occur the so-called terminal agitation.
Agitation also occurs with depression . If she masters the clinical picture , this is referred to as agitated depression.
Agitation is a side effect of some antidepressants ; it can also occur with cocaine abuse .
