Agonglo
Agonglo was the eighth king of Dahomey . He succeeded his father Kpengla and ruled from 1789 to 1797.
Agonglo made numerous reforms: taxes were cut and he made larger gifts to the common people as part of the annual gathering . After his father's phase of conquest, Agonglo consolidated the rule of his dynasty. He was also successful in some battles and the kingdom flourished under his rule. Its symbol was the pineapple . It is also noteworthy that Agonglo was the first of the Dahomey kings to marry a European: one of his wives was a Dutch mestizo .
Agonglo was followed by his eldest son Adandozan .
