Agusti Charles

Agustí Charles (* 1960 in Manresa , Province of Barcelona ) is a Spanish composer.

Agustí Charles' first serious compositions date back to 1980 when he studied with Miquel Roger , Albert Sardà and Josep Soler . He trained with Franco Donatoni , Luigi Nono and Samuel Adler , and continues to work with Joan Guinjoan , Cristóbal Halffter , José Ramón Encinar and Antoni Ros Marbà .

His first opera, La Cuzzoni , premiered at the Darmstadt State Theater in October 2008, and later played in Barcelona and Madrid.

In March 2011 his second opera, Lord Byron, un estiu sense estiu (“Lord Byron, a summer without a summer”), text by Marc Rosich, also premiered at the Staatstheater Darmstadt in the production of Alfonso Romero Mora.

In 2008 the Italian company Stradivarius Records released a CD with some of his symphonic works, recorded by the Madrid State Orchestra under the direction of JR Encinar. In 2010 the Catalan company Tritó released a CD of his works with the Catalan State Orchestra under the direction of Jaime Martín .

He teaches composition at the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Aragón as head of department.

Prizes and awards

He has won around fifty prizes, both in Spain and abroad.
