Ahmed Ounaies (2013)

Ahmed Abderraouf Ounaies (also Ahmed Ounaïes or Ahmed Ounaes ; Arabic أحمد ونيس; * 1936 ) is a Tunisian diplomat and politician. He was foreign minister of his country from January 27, 2011, after the revolution in Tunisia 2010/2011 , to February 13, 2011.

Ounaies had to resign after he exuberantly praised French Foreign Minister Michèle Alliot-Marie in a joint appearance. He referred to her as “a friend of Tunisia” and loves to listen to her “under all circumstances and at all lecterns”. Shortly before, it had become known that Alliot-Marie had used the private plane of a businessman who was close to the ousted President Ben Ali for her vacation . In addition, Alliot-Marie Ben Ali offered French help shortly before he fled Tunisia. As a result, there were massive protests by Tunisian diplomats, for which Ounaies ultimately had to resign.
