The Ahrens Aircraft Corporation was in Oxnard , California , was founded. After an Ahrens AR 124 glider had previously been developed and only two copies could be sold, the company began developing a STOL regional transport and cargo aircraft, the Ahrens AR 404, in 1975 . In the course of the development, the company received a commitment from the Puerto Rico government to contribute to the development costs if the production takes place there. One of the two prototypes was actually built there, and plans to build a factory were well advanced when Puerto Rico withdrew its financial commitment and the project had to be abandoned.
Most recently, the company was based in Aguadilla , Puerto Rico.
