Aiko Yanai

Aiko Yanai ( Japanese 柳 井 愛 子 , Yanai Aiko ; born November 22, 1975 in Suita ), known by her stage name aiko , is a J-Pop singer and songwriter . Her music consists primarily of love songs, which are particularly successful with the young female target group. She was voted the most popular Japanese singer in a poll by the official chart publisher Oricon in 2005 and 2006 .

Musical career

Aiko completed her vocal studies at Osaka College of Music in 1996 and then became a radio host at FM Osaka . She made her debut as a singer in 1998 with the single Ashita . Since then, her songs have mainly been used in various television series and commercials.

With her third single Hanabi , she entered the top 10 of the Japanese charts for the first time and her second studio album, Sakura no Ki no Shita , has already sold over a million copies. Her sixth single Boyfriend is her best-selling song to date. She got an invitation to the most famous Japanese music show Kōhaku Uta Gassen in 2000. She has since taken part in the show seven more times. Her 3rd studio album Natsufuku and her 5th studio album Akatsuki no Love Letter were named Rock & Pop Album of the Year at the Japan Gold Disc Awards in 2002 and 2004, respectively. Although she has continuously entered the top 3 in the single charts since 2000, she only managed to reach first place in 2009 with her 25th single milk / Nageki no Kisu . With the song Modorenai Ashita , released a year later, she managed to reach the top of the charts a second time. The song is also the opening title for the dorama Magerarenai Onna. On March 31st, (e) aiko plans to release their album Baby .

From 2009 to 2010 she was on a long, three-part tour, during which she gave a total of 54 live concerts, and which she ended on July 8, 2010 with a performance at Osaka Jo Hall.
