Under Ailurophobie (from ancient Greek αἴλουρος ailuros , German , cat ' , and φόβος Phobos , German , Fear , other transcriptions: Aelurophobie, Elurophobie) is the fear before cats . Seldom used terms for this behavior are felinophobia , galeophobia (actually "weasel fear"; since the Greeks only knew weasels for a long time, cats were initially referred to as weasels) and gatophobia (modern loanword of Germanic origin).

In contrast to other animal phobias such as arachnophobia (fear of spiders ) or cynophobia (fear of dogs ), ailurophobia is usually hidden from those affected.

An Iranian study on the prevalence of anxiety disorders confirmed the high proportion of cat phobias.
