The Aioi Bridge ( Japanese 相 生 橋 , Aioi-bashi ) is a T-shaped bridge in Hiroshima , Japan .

Originally built in 1932, it was the target of the US nuclear bomb attack on the city in 1945 because its shape made it an easily recognizable target from the air. It was rebuilt in 1983.

The longest part of the bridge spans the river Ōta (now generally: Hongawa, 本 川 ) in the north of the island, which includes the district of Nakajima-chō . About in the middle of the bridge branches off a connection from the bridge to the south to this island. During the reconstruction of the city, the Hiroshima Peace Park was built there on part of the former inner city .

Aioi Street ( 相 生 通 り , Aioi-dōri ) with the main line ( honsen ) of the Hiroshima tram runs across the bridge .
