Vitus Eicher (born November 5, 1990 in Erding ) is a German soccer player who is under contract with 1. FC Heidenheim .

career

Adolescence and early adult years

Eicher started playing football in his home town at FC Langengeisling . In 2000, at the age of nine, he moved to Grünwalder Strasse in the state capital of Munich , after being noticed by the talent scouts of TSV 1860 at the Merkur Cup , a junior tournament. As a result, he went through the entire youth department of the Munich Lions , whose fan he has been since childhood. After he was the goalkeeper of the A youth team in the Bundesliga in the 2008/09 season , Eicher moved up to the U23 in the summer of 2009, which played in the Regionalliga Süd .

There he made twelve appearances in the 2009/10 season , as the U19 goalkeeper Björn Bussmann and Philipp Tschauner , the second professional goalkeeper, also played regularly . In addition, the substitute goalkeeper Sebastian Seibold and the third professional goalkeeper Michael Hofmann were each used twice. After Hofmann's departure in the summer of 2010, trainer Reiner Maurer appointed Eicher and Bussmann to the extended professional squad, where both played friendly matches. Just as they took turns as the third goalkeeper among the professionals, they initially also rotated in the U23 goal. In the second half of the season Eicher was the goalkeeper of the little lions , Bussmann only made a few appearances. Timo Tank, the third goalkeeper of the U23, was only used twice, once in the game against SSV Ulm , which was played as a mandatory friendship game after its bankruptcy , and in the season finale on matchday 34.

After Bussmann and Eicher's contracts expired in summer 2011, only Eicher's contract was extended for another year. After Bussmann's departure, Eicher was now the sole third goalkeeper of the Lions behind Gábor Király and Timo Ochs . He was used in a few test matches, but in competitive games he was only used in the regional league. There he was now team captain and played all games over the entire length until the winter break. On December 17, when he played at Karlsruher SC, he was part of the 18-man squad for the first time in a second division game after Gábor Király was out due to an injury and Timo Ochs was guarding the goal. In January 2012 he was used in a test match for the first team, but was initially not considered in the competitive games of the second half of the season. Instead, he was in goal in almost all games of the U23, only when he was a second representative of the Karlsruher SC he was not in the squad due to a yellow card suspension .

Professional football

In April 2012 he finally signed his first professional contract with TSV 1860. The contract is valid until 2015. For the game on the penultimate day of the season at Eintracht Frankfurt , which at that time had already been promoted, coach Maurer nominated him for the starting line-up. Eicher made his debut in professional football on April 29, 2012. He let the 2: 0 away win of Sechzger no goals and became after the game by the magazine Kicker as Player of the Game award.

Also in the 2012/13 season Eicher was the third goalkeeper of the second division team behind Király and Ochs. After Ochs left the club in the following winter break, Eicher was the first substitute goalkeeper in the second half of the season, but he was not used in the 2nd Bundesliga. For the second team, which now competed as U21 in the new Regionalliga Bayern , he was used 30 times this season . The goalkeeper scored his first field game goal on April 23, 2013 when he hit the opponent's goal from 70 meters in a 3-1 win against TSV Buchbach . With the Löwen reserve, Eicher came first in the end. He played through both promotion games against SV Elversberg , but could not prevent the little lions from losing to the Saarlanders.

In 2013/14 he was part of the squad in 31 games in the second division, but just like in the cup, he was not used. For the U21 he played ten games in the Regionalliga Bayern. In the summer of 2014, TSV 1860 signed another goalkeeper for the first team, Stefan Ortega Moreno . Eicher was also nominally part of the professional squad at the beginning of the 2014/15 season , but was replaced by Ortega as second goalkeeper and was initially only in the squad of the U21s. After Ortega became the first goalkeeper in mid-August and Király left the club at the end of August, Eicher moved up again. From the fourth to the 21st match day he was a substitute goalkeeper in all games. During this time he was only used once for the U21s. In mid-February 2015 Torsten Fröhling became the new head coach of the second division team. Eicher has been the Löwen's goalkeeper since then.

In January 2017 Eicher moved to the second division club 1. FC Heidenheim .
