mode
The Merkur Cup is held in various one-day tournaments, in which eight teams take part, with the top two progressing. First of all, the tournaments take place in preliminary rounds with a total of around 375 participating teams on the level of 16 districts located in Upper Bavaria. The two winners of the respective district final tournaments move into four district final tournaments. The eight participants in the final tournament are made up of the two finalists of the four district finals.
The individual tournaments are initially played in groups of four before the semi-finals and finals in knockout mode. In the group phase, the special rule applies that a team receives an additional point for three or more goals scored in a game.
A Merkur Cup for girls has been held in parallel since 2013, in which 24 teams recently took part.
The tournament was canceled for 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic .
