Fabian Marco Johnson (born December 11, 1987 in Munich ) is a German-American football player . He is currently without a club and plays for the United States senior team .

Career

societies

The native Giesinger was used in all field player positions in the course of his career. From 1991 to 1996 he played in the youth teams of Sportfreunde München . In 1996 Johnson came to TSV 1860 Munich , where he went through all youth teams. On December 11, 2004 (19th matchday) - in the goalless draw in the away game against the Stuttgarter Kickers - he was used for the first time in the U-23 youth team in the Regionalliga Süd . Until November 17, 2007 (16th matchday) he played 43 regional league games for TSV 1860 Munich II.

Johnson had his first appearance in professional football on March 19, 2006 (26th matchday) in a 1-0 win in the away game of the second division match with SC Paderborn 07 with a substitute for Roman Tyce in the 90th minute. In the summer of 2009, Johnson moved to Bundesliga club VfL Wolfsburg . As a defensive player, he had a hard time asserting himself against Marcel Schäfer or Sascha Riether at the beginning . On September 12, 2009 (5th matchday) he made his debut in the 3-2 defeat in the Bundesliga home game against Bayer 04 Leverkusen , substituting Christian Gentner in the 76th minute. In his first Bundesliga season he played ten games and scored a goal on December 5, 2009 (15th matchday) with the goal to make it 2-2 in the 82nd minute in the home game against SC Freiburg . In the following season he played only six league games, three of them by substitution in the final minutes. On June 3, 2011, VfL Wolfsburg announced that Johnson would switch to league competitor TSG 1899 Hoffenheim .

After three seasons and after his contract at Hoffenheim had expired, Johnson moved to league rivals Borussia Mönchengladbach for the 2014/15 season , with whom he signed a contract that ran until June 30, 2018 on February 24, 2014. In his 13th Bundesliga game for Borussia Mönchengladbach, he scored his first goal in a 2-0 win on March 1, 2015 (23rd matchday) in the home game against Bundesliga newcomer SC Paderborn 07 with the 1-0 goal in the 18th minute . Johnson's contract was not extended beyond the 2019/20 Bundesliga season.

National team

After Johnson had played 35 international matches for the youth teams of the DFB between 2003 and 2009 and had become European champion in Sweden with the U-21 national team under national coach Horst Hrubesch , he received the appointment on August 25, 2011 from the US national coach Jürgen Klinsmann for two international matches in the test against Costa Rica and Belgium . He gained his eligibility to play for the senior team of the United States through FIFA only afterwards and was called up again on November 3, 2011 for the senior international matches against France and Slovenia . On November 11, 2011, he made his debut at the Stade de France in the 0-1 loss to France.
