Career

youth

Maier started playing soccer in Weihmichl at SC Weihmichl . In 2004 he moved to the Grünwalder Straße in Munich to the youth training center of TSV 1860 Munich . There he went through the junior teams from U12 to U19, from 2007 he also lived in the club's own boarding school. In the 2010/11 season he was part of the regular cast of the U19 of the sixties in the A-Junioren-Bundesliga , which had qualified for the final round of the German championship with 2nd place at the end of the season. He was used in the two semi-finals against 1. FC Kaiserslautern , in which, however, the devils prevailed.

Beginnings in professional football

In preparation for the 2011/12 season , coach Reiner Maurer Maier and seven other players who had belonged to the U19s in the previous season were appointed to the professional squad. In June and July 2011 he came to five appearances in test matches for the second division team of the sixties . After Korbinian Vollmann, Maier is the youngest player in the squad of the Munich Lions in the 2011/12 season . On the first matchday he was part of the 18-man squad at the game in Braunschweig as he did on the second matchday against Karlsruher SC and the DFB-Pokal first round match in Osnabrück , but he was not used in the three games. On August 6, 2011, he made his debut in professional football when he was substituted on on the third day of the game at the Löwen game in Cottbus .

On August 23, he first appeared in the DFB dress . He was on the starting line-up for the German U19s against Estonia . He was also used against Belgium and the Netherlands on September 1st and 4th. By the winter he was a total of seven times for the second division team of the sixties , three times he played for the U23 in the Regionalliga Süd and once for the U19 in the A-Junior-Bundesliga. After the winter break he was substituted on eight times in the second division. In his only second round appearance in the U23 he scored his first goal in the adult area on March 24, 2012 at Ingolstadt II .

In the 2012/13 season he played nine times as a substitute in the 2nd Bundesliga until the winter break. Since he refused an offer to extend his contract, which expired at the end of the season, during the winter break, he was no longer considered for the professional squad in 2013. After commuting between the two teams in the first half of the season, he now played again exclusively for the second team, which had been under 21 in the new Bavarian regional league since summer 2012 . With the little lions he became champion of the Regionalliga Bayern and then failed in the promotion games to the 3rd division at SV Elversberg .
