Maximilian "Maxi" Thiel (born February 3, 1993 in Altötting ) is a German soccer player who is under contract with 1. FC Heidenheim .

Career

At the beginning of his career he was more in the central midfield, but later switched to the wings where he is mostly used as a left winger today. In addition to good technique and speed, the left foot is characterized by a powerful shot on goal.

Thiel played for SV Gendorf Burgkirchen in his childhood until 2004 . Trained in the youth academy of Wacker Burghausen , Thiel made his professional debut in the 3rd division in August 2010 at the age of 17 in the game against Rot Weiss Ahlen under coach Mario Basler . In October of the same year he signed his first professional contract. In the following years he developed into a regular player, top performer and finally was one of the most sought-after talents in the third division. In the 2012/13 season he scored ten goals and was the top scorer of his team. For the 2013/14 season he moved to the then second division club 1. FC Köln , with whom he became champions of the 2. Bundesliga at the end of the season and was promoted to the Bundesliga . He scored his first competitive goal in the DFB Cup against Eintracht Trier to make it 2-0. In the summer transfer period of 2014, he moved on loan to the second division club 1. FC Union Berlin , where he immediately played in the regular formation and became a top performer. He made his debut for the Berlin team on September 14, 2014 against 1. FC Heidenheim . After a successful one-year loan deal, Union Berlin signed him permanently, with Thiel signing a two-year contract until 2017. In October 2015 he was appointed vice-captain and appointed to the team council.

For the 2017/18 season , Thiel moved within the 2nd Bundesliga to 1. FC Heidenheim , with whom he received a contract until June 30, 2019. In August 2018, the contract was prematurely extended to 2021.

National team

Maximilian Thiel was also active for the German U20 national team , for which he played nine international matches in which he scored four goals. He made his debut in the U-20s on September 6, 2013, when they beat Poland 2-0 in Pfullendorf .
