Air Force Cyber Command
The Air Force Cyber Command (AFCYBER) should have become a major command of the US Air Force for cyber warfare in 2008 . The proposed facility was first announced by the Air Force Secretary of State on November 2, 2006 . From summer 2007 onwards, the command under the name Air Force Cyber Command (Provisional) was under construction and should be fully operational by autumn 2008 at the latest. However, due to a changed focus, it was announced in October 2008 that the AFCYBER would not be realized. The planned task package was carried out by the formation of the 24th Air Force ( 24th Air Force ) under the leadership of the Air Force Space Command , at the same time the Global Strike Command was created as the new main command .
Planned assignment and organization
State Secretary Michael Wynne described the tasks of the AFCYBER as follows: “The aim is to establish a new main command , which, together with the Air Force Space Command and the Air Combat Command , guarantees free access and data exchange for the President, the network commands and the American people in space, in the air and now also in cyberspace . "
MajGen William T. Lord was appointed Commander of the Provisional Command . The personnel was primarily recruited from the 67th Network Warfare Wing and the Eighth Air Force (8th Air Fleet).
