The Air Force Cyber ​​Command (AFCYBER) should have become a major command of the US Air Force for cyber warfare in 2008 . The proposed facility was first announced by the Air Force Secretary of State on November 2, 2006 . From summer 2007 onwards, the command under the name Air Force Cyber ​​Command (Provisional) was under construction and should be fully operational by autumn 2008 at the latest. However, due to a changed focus, it was announced in October 2008 that the AFCYBER would not be realized. The planned task package was carried out by the formation of the 24th Air Force ( 24th Air Force ) under the leadership of the Air Force Space Command , at the same time the Global Strike Command was created as the new main command .

Planned assignment and organization

MajGen William T. Lord was appointed Commander of the Provisional Command . The personnel was primarily recruited from the 67th Network Warfare Wing and the Eighth Air Force (8th Air Fleet).
