Airmed

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Airmed is a figure in the Celtic mythology of Ireland . She is mentioned in the Lebor Gabala Eirenn and the two battles of Mag Tuired as the daughter of the Túatha Dé Danann doctor Dian Cecht and sister of the two healing brothers Miach and Ormiach. Together with Miach, she can restore the hand of Nuada that was cut off in the first battle .

When Dian Cecht kills his son Miach out of jealousy for his ability, Airmed cries so many tears at his grave that all the plants in the world sprout on it. She collects them, names them and hides them in her cloak. The jealous Dian Cecht, however, destroys the plants - therefore nobody can have all the knowledge about the flora anymore . Only Airmed doesn’t forget anything.

Like Dian Cecht and Miach, she is able to bring the dead back to life by singing incantations at the source of Sláine.
