Aivar Mäe (born May 12, 1960 in Pärnu ) is an Estonian conductor .

Life and music

Aivar Mäe studied clarinet at the Tallinn Music High School ( Tallinna Muusikakeskkool ) from 1979 to 1985 at the Tallinn Conservatory with Ants Sööt . Since then he has worked as a musician and conductor. In 1991 Mäe studied in the USA at Portland State University with Bruce Browne .

From 2000 to 2009 Mäe was director of Eesti Kontsert in Tallinn. In 2003 he also became director of the Vanemuine theater and opera house in Tartu, South Estonia . Since September 2009 Mäe has been General Director of the Estonia National Opera in the Estonian capital.

Aivar Mäe has directed numerous choirs and orchestras in Estonia . He also became known as the artistic director of the Arsis Ensemble , founded in 1993 , the only Estonian bell ensemble.

Private life

Aivar Mäe is married and has three children.
