The Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan ( Uzbek Oʻzbekiston Respublikasi Fanlar Akademiyasi, OʻzFA ) is the central scientific institution of Uzbekistan with its headquarters in the Uzbek capital Tashkent . The academy serves to coordinate research in all areas of science. The President of the Academy is Shavkat Ismoilovich Solixov.

The Academy was founded during the Soviet rule in November 1943 as the Academy of Sciences of the Uzbek Soviet Socialist Republic . Its first president was the mathematician Toshmuhammad Niyozovich Qori-Niyozov. After Uzbekistan gained independence in 1991, the academy continued its operations under its current name.

research

The research work of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan is divided into 20 institutes, which thematically cover a wide range of academic subjects. The focus is on natural science subjects. There are institutes for nuclear , geo- and thermal physics , as well as for bio-organic chemistry and polymer chemistry . Some institutes have a strong regional connection, such as the Institute for Seismology, which plays an important role due to the acute earthquake hazard in the region, and the Institute for Water Problems, which also researches central problems in Uzbekistan and the region. In addition, two regional branches in Uzbekistan, the Mamun Academy in Khiva and another position in Nukus in the Autonomous Region of Karakalpakistan make a significant contribution to the academy's research.

The main body of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan is the General Assembly, at which all full members, currently 155 people, of the Academy come together. The executive committee, which consists of the president of the academy, his deputy, a scientific manager and the chairmen of the offices in Nukus and Khiva, is responsible for administration and management.

The academy maintains a total of 26 international partnerships. Partners include similar academies in other countries such as the Russian Academy of Sciences , the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the British Royal Society . There are also partners from the private sector, such as the German Chemotrade GmbH.
