Akamasoa Association

The Akamasoa Association ( Akamasoa Malagasy = good friends) was founded in 1989 by the priest Pedro Opeka . The aim of the project is to physically and mentally rehabilitate the people living on the social abyss in garbage dumps in Madagascar .

Structure and concept

Driven by his enthusiasm, Father Pedro founded Akamasoa in 1989 and, with the help of the same, set up the first settlement center in the vicinity of Antananarivo for people who came from the landfill and lived in total poverty . In the meantime, five settlement centers with a total of 17 villages have emerged around Antananarivo, in which a total of around 16,000 people live. Over 3,000 one-story brick houses have been built in 17 years. In the villages, people are given the opportunity to earn a living by farming or other simple activities. Akamasoa employs 3,400 trainers for this purpose . Akamasoa, however, presupposes work and discipline on the part of people living in poverty. In addition, a school of children of families condition.
