Aqila al-Hashimi

Aqila al-Hashimi ( Arabic الهاشمي, DMG ʿAqīla al-Hāschimī ; * 1953 ; † September 25, 2003 in Baghdad ) was an Iraqi politician and one of three women on the Iraqi Governing Council .

Al-Hashimi worked in the Iraqi Foreign Ministry under Saddam Hussein . She was the only member of the Iraqi regime appointed by the US to the 25-member government council. In the immediate vicinity of her home in western Baghdad, assassins fired assault rifles at the politician from an off-road vehicle. Al-Hashimi died from serious injuries.
