Akmeniškiai

Akmeniškiai , Curonian Akmonischken is a village in the district Katyčiai (Germanized Coadjuthen ) of šilutė district municipality (German Heydekrug ).

Surname

The name describes stony terrain and is Prussian from "akmenis": stone, rock, rock, chunks or from Kurish "akmins": stone to be derived. In old documents it was called Agminischken in 1542, Ackminischken and Ackmanischken in 1584. At the beginning of the 20th century it was called Ackmonischken, and Akmonischken again in 1939–45 .

history

Ackmonischken, located in the parish of Coadjuthen, belonged to the Prussian district of Tilsit until 1920 . Until 1939 the village was part of the Memel area and now belonged to the Lithuanian Pogegen district . After the reclassification of the Memel area, the municipality resigned to the province of East Prussia and became part of the Heydekrug district .

Population development

In 1885 there were 405 inhabitants in the village.
In 1941 the population was 236. In
1997 there were 76 inhabitants.
