Acrophony

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Acrophony (from the Greek akros = point and phonein = to tone) is the method of naming the letters of a script after an object or an animal that begins with the same letter. An example of this is the Phoenician script :

  • aleph = beef
  • beth = house
  • gimel = camel
  • dalet = door leaf

This is the first step in converting a character font to a letter font.
