The file trolley , known in particular by courts , authorities and administrations , is a vehicle for the internal transport of files , letters and office supplies .

It is mostly a wooden wagon equipped with four wheels and occasionally with an electric motor for easier propulsion. Most of the time, the front or rear pair of wheels can be rotated because of the better steerability. This car can have several levels. These trolleys are used for internal file and mail traffic between the post office or registry , the office or the clerk and also the typing service or secretary.

At the individual contact points there is usually a folder for receiving the new files and for collecting the completed ones. In contrast to the filing trolley, this has no wheels and can therefore only be used stationary. This means that the file messengers have a fixed place in each port of call to exchange files, even when the room is not currently occupied.

Filing trolleys and filing trolleys are used for the smooth internal processing of business transactions. In the age of modern computer-aided office communication, however, electronic right-hand traffic is increasing. Especially in authorities that rely on embodied paper documents and also archive them (for example in the judiciary, in building and cadastral authorities), the majority of files still circulate in the conventional way.
