Action Alliance for Mental Health

The Action Alliance for Mental Health (ABSG) is a nationwide anti-stigma initiative funded by the Federal Ministry of Health . The more than 100 member organizations include the self-help associations of those affected and relatives of people with mental illnesses as well as many associations from the fields of psychiatry, health promotion and politics. The alliance was founded in 2006 by the German Society for Psychiatry and Psychotherapy, Psychosomatics and Neurology (DGPPN)together with the "Open the doors" association. With the implementation of this antistigma program, the Mental Health Action Alliance wants to make a significant contribution to improving the mental health of the population in Germany, as formulated in the European Declaration and the European Action Plan on Mental Health of the World Health Organization (WHO) . When it was founded, it was based on the European Commission's Green Paper on Mental Health .

The action alliance for mental health advocates non-stigmatizing reporting in the media. It is committed to eliminating structural discrimination and promoting the social integration of mentally ill people. Structure and bodies

The ABSG steering group is responsible for coordinating and coordinating the activities of the alliance. It also advises on the admission of new members. The steering group is made up of trialogues, i.e. members from the professional area, from the area of ​​those affected and the relatives make decisions. The steering group currently consists of 12 alliance members. The office is located in Berlin and is sponsored by the German Society for Psychiatry and Psychotherapy, Psychosomatics and Neurology (DGPPN) .

Members

Around 100 organizations, associations and institutions are currently participating in the action alliance, including self-help associations for those affected and relatives of people with mental illnesses, medical associations, scientific specialist societies and medical competence networks.

Projects and areas of responsibility

The action alliance for mental health implements nationwide campaigns and projects to educate people about mental illnesses to reduce stigmatization . To this end, it supports a nationwide network of anti-stigma initiatives, education and prevention projects. It enables a regular exchange of information and offers its members a platform for joint public relations work. To this end, the ABSG organizes events and lectures for interested parties and experts on various topics relating to mental health.

Berlin Mental Health Week

The ABSG coordinates nationwide action weeks around the WHO World Mental Health Day on October 10 and organizes the Berlin Mental Health Week. For one week, citizens of Berlin are invited to explore the outpatient and inpatient offers of the psychiatric and psychosocial facilities in their area. The goals of all events are to provide information about mental illnesses, to show support and therapy offers and to stimulate discussions. Lectures, workshops, taster courses, specialist conferences or art exhibitions are intended to help reduce fears of contact in order to involve those affected and their relatives. The Berlin Action Week has been taking place since 2007. The calendar of events grew steadily to over 200 events. Six partners have come together to organize the Berlin Mental Health Week: ABSG, DGPPN , Alexianer Kliniken St. Hedwig and St. Joseph, the Berlin Alliance against Depression and the Senate Department for Health, Care and Equality . They are supported by the district psychiatry coordinators. Other financial sponsors are the city's psychiatric clinics and Aktion Mensch .

Nationwide weeks of mental health

Since 2010, the action alliance has been calling for the nationwide Mental Health Week every year. Many institutions and initiatives use the events and action days to position themselves on the subject of mental health. The campaign alliance supports the content with its nationwide network of experts as well as general information material and coordinates a nationwide online event calendar. In the meantime, around 50 regions and cities have participated in the campaign weeks with around 800 events. Large campaign weeks, which are also a partner of the Berlin Week, find u. a. in Munich, Cologne-Bonn and Leipzig.

Mental health in the workplace

The ABSG organizes training courses, seminars and workshops for managers to better deal with mental illnesses in the workplace. Together with the Federal Association of Relatives of Mentally Ill People , the action alliance has developed management training on the subject of mental health in the workplace.
