Action days in the Rhineland 2017

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

From August 24th to 29th, 2017, protests against the mining of lignite in the Rhenish lignite district took place as part of the so-called “Action Days in the Rhineland” . The days of action included several camps with workshop and educational programs. Various actors with different priorities for action campaigned in places in the region around the Garzweiler , Hambach and Inden opencast mines and the power plants connected to the opencast mines for an end to coal-fired power generation and a global energy transition. The actors emphasized the coexistence of different forms of action in solidarity. The protests in Wendland against the Castor transports serve as a model for the concept. The concept of the action days with the various actors is summarized in an action reader of the German Association for the Promotion of Global Green Movements. Around 5000 people took part in the actions and camps.
