Acutance

Under acutance is understood in the photograph contour sharpness. An image is usually perceived as sharper, the more pronounced the color or brightness transitions are shown. Particularly in black and white photography , a high degree of acuteness is aimed for.

In digital photography , recordings are often sharpened before they are saved, which does not always lead to positive results. In the case of overly sharp pixel images, the artifacts - generally: the image disturbances - also appear excessively.
