The Albin Vega is a type of sailboat built at the Albin Marin shipyard ( Kristinehamn ) in Sweden . It was designed by Per Brohäll in 1964. The first prototype, still in wood, was launched on July 29, 1965. Series production took place in glass fiber reinforced plastic (GRP) . By the time production was stopped in 1979, 3450 ships left the shipyard.
Matt Rutherford sailed from June 2011 to May 2012 with his Albin Vega Saint Brendan as the first person to sail non-stop around America (North and South America) with one hand. The Saint Brendan was the smallest ship to date that passed through the Northwest Passage .
